working things out...

My Plan

After this next year I will transfer to either Colorado State University (Fort Collins) or Cornell University (Ithaca NY). There I will complete my BS (of probably Animal Science or Biology) and then apply for Vet Schools at both of those same institutions.

After I get my DVM or during the last few years of schooling I plan to do missions work. There are several programs that do free vet care here in the USA and I would love to be a part of them, going to impoverished areas and providing vet care for people who can’t afford to take care of their animals. Then I plan to go to Africa or possibly South America. I want to do the same sort of thing there. Providing health care and maybe even some mild human health care to people in need.

Now I know that this can in some ways go against my vegan beliefs, taking care of livestock that the people will in turn use. But I would rather a horse plow a field in good health than in bad health. I want to go help those animals the best I can. These trips would also be a fantastic way to spread the Gospel and show the people and animals God’s love for them.

And after a few years of that I want to come home and start my own Animal hospital/ clinic. I know that might not happen too fast. I will have to work with and for other people for a while. But that is my eventual dream. In my hospital I want to be able to provide as much pro-bono care as possible, providing vet care for people who really cannot afford vet care. I don’t think money should be an issue when it comes to health. For people or animals.

Along side my hospital I want to have a no kill animal shelter that will take in strays and find them new homes after getting them good and healthy.

More so than that even, I want to start an animal sanctuary. In a perfect world I would have a community serving veterinary hospital on the sanctuary grounds. The sanctuary will take in unwanted animals, nurse injured animals to health, and save animals destined for food production. I will need to find other people with the same ambition in order to make this happen, maybe buy a bunch of land in Montana or Colorado, grow our own food, and nurture pastures for the animals. Hard work but not impossible, especially with a group of us, and charitable donation.

This plan might not sound practical to a lot of people, and I know it will be hard to make happen. But I really want this, and I will make my dreams come true. The world can just try and stop me.
